Berserker Cuan Ahearne Mmmm, What'cha saaaay~ general info
personality
biography Cuan's story starts as an illicit love affair between a young wolf laguz, a warrior by the name of Cu, and young noble woman of the house Ahearne. A young married noble woman. Fortunately for them, they managed to keep the affair a secret from her husband, and when Cuan was born, it was naturally assumed he was the son of the Lord Ahearne. Cuan's mother put an end to the affair shortly after his birth to keep the secret, and Cuan, safe, but Cu often came to visit as a "family friend", with or without the knowledge of Cuan's mother. He actually even became pretty good friends with the Lord Ahearne, ironically enough. Cuan was always a rather undisciplined child while growing up, despite the Lord Ahearne's best efforts to teach him otherwise. His mother secret blamed his actual father's monthly visits for his wild attitude, as Cu had a very different approach to life than the traditional Aselian nobility. Cuan was often torn between his familial duty to be a good son and the wilder side of him that Cu encouraged. But no secret lasts forever. A few weeks after his sixteenth birthday, Cuan came across his mother being accused of adultery by his not-father in the courtyard. The Lord Ahearne had never been a cruel or wicked man, but when he learned that the son he had raised all his life, his only living heir, had been another man's child, he lost himself. He beat Cuan's mother, and when Cuan moved to intervene, struck him across the face with a blade, scarring him for life. He might have killed them both if Cu hadn't been around, lurking as he often did around their house. A brief struggle ensued. Nobody won. Both the Lord Ahearne and Cu died in the brief fight, but not before Cu unveiled the truth of his birth to Cuan. While Cuan was understandably fucking mind blown by the revelation, his mother was her usual calm, collected self, even when beaten half to death. She summoned only what servants she knew she could trust, then had them clean up the bodies, and buried the incident. To this day, very few know the truth of Cuan's heritage, and all that remains are rumors and stories, with no evidence to support them. Shortly after this, Cuan had a mask made in honor of his real father, which he has worn at almost all times since then. In part to honor his biological father, and in part to hide the admittedly not so bitchin' scar his real dad had left across his face. And for the record, his mother did tell them it was a stupid idea because it would only led credence to rumors about his illegitimate heritage, but Cuan has worn it since then regardless. The Hound of Aselia Shortly after the death of his adoptive and biological father, Cuan entered the Aselian military service. The war had already been raging for years by this point, and every able bodied men was welcome. Being from a prominent noble family, Cuan entered the service as an officer-- Merit meant less than position, after all. Still, he proved himself a capable leader and natural fighter, if a bit... reckless. What? Both of the father figures in his life had just murdered each other and he was thrust into a position of command, he was admittedly dealing with some freaking issues. Issues he was happy to take out on some Termacian skulls. He was part of several campaigns and battles against the enemy country. He participated in some of the most savage battles of the time, distinguishing himself from his comrades both in his natural prowess for combat and his tendency to lead from the front. There was never a battle in which Cuan remained outside the fray-- He would wade into combat with the rest of his troops, and lead from within the battle. Which was great for small scale battles, but was highly impractical for large scale operations. While Cuan excelled at guerrilla warfare and smaller battles, he could never lead an army. This was not due to any tactical lacking, but more the fact that leading an entire freaking army while you were cutting dudes heads off was basically impossible, and he had no desire to sit in the back and give up the lifestyle of cutting people's heads off. On one of his assignments nary a few years after his enrollment in the army, he ended up saving the life of a young prince, soon to be King of Aselia, Ashwyn. They actually became quite close friends shortly after, and Cuan soon found himself as one of the King's personal soldiers. While he was in some ways an adviser to the king, the truth of the matter is that Cuan learned far more from the King than any advice he could give him. From Ashwyn Cuan learned temperance, and how to control his sometimes wild and reckless nature. Cuan quickly garnered a reputation as the king's guard, gaining the nickname "The Hound of Aselia", both for the mask he always wore and for his unwavering and almost obsessive loyalty to the king. Any command given, Cuan would preform without question. Any perceived insult or slight to the king was met with his scorn, and if you were unlucky, an axe in the skull. So when the King came to him with a rather personal request, Cuan couldn't help but accept, even if it meant leaving the King's side. The Watchdog Ashwyn had a bastard, a girl by the name of Ashlyn. When this came to light, Ashwyn knew she had to be sent away for her own safety-- She was hardly a toddler and the jealous Queen surely would have had her killed. Cuan had always liked the Queen and her Son, but his loyalty was to Ashwyn first and foremost, and when Ashwyn commanded him to go and guard his daughter in secret, he obeyed. He put down his mask and his axe and watched the child grow from afar. He assumed a quiet, unassuming disguise and lived nearby, but never really interacted with the child, save for a few scant meetings. But for the most part, he kept out of her life, living it what was essentially solitary exile, keeping mostly to himself. He made sure to watch out for the girl and make sure no threat to her life could remain: Which also meant anyone finding out her identity. More than a few spies from rather curious Aselian, and Termacian, nobles found themselves on the wrong side of Cuan's weapon when they came snooping for the supposed bastard of the King. Still, Cuan never really interacted with Ashlyn. She knew her life in her foster home was... rough, but he could not, would not, intervene. He watched her grow from afar, always dutifully keeping an eye on her and reporting back to the King on her well being. He admittedly omitted some of the rougher parts of her upbringing, if only to save his friend from worry about things he could do nothing about. And then the idiot of a foster father went ahead and spilled the beans to the poor girl, informing her of her lineage. She went off and joined the army before Cuan even had time to inform the King of this turn of events, and this left Cuan in quite the pickle. The first thing he did was punish the idiot who couldn't keep his mouth shut, which admittedly he took some joy in. He may not have ever met the girl, but she was Ashwyn's blood and his years of watching her had made him rather sympathetic towards her. So he gave the man who had tortured and berated her all these years quite the painful punishment for failing to keep his damn mouth shut. After leaving the man a few broken bones worse off, he hurriedly sent a messenger to Ashwyn about what had occurred, and raced after her. Upon witnessing that Ashlyn had already enlisted, he retrieved his mask and weapon and returned to service as the Hound of Aselia: If only to keep his promise to the king and make sure to keep Ashwyn's daughter safe. | ooc info ☆ NAME Merlin the Wizard ☆ OTHER CHARACTERS Soren, Aeron ☆ FACE CLAIM Okami OKI, CUAN AHEARNE THIS CHARACTER BELONGS TO MERLIN, MOTHAFUCKA.
